Speur's Early Postcards
My name is Frans Speur. I buy and sell early 20th century postcards and photographs of town views and street scenes from around the world. Below are links to my store on the Delcampe auction site and also to two websites of mine. In this blog I'll try to keep you up-to-date on my latest purchases and also show you some of the more interesting postcards I come across every now and then. My e-mail address: fspeur@telus.net

Grand Island, Nebraska

It looks like everyone had a car in Grand Island, Nebraska, around 1950, although some people apparently took the bus. And there were parking meters, too!... Henry Fonda was born here. With a variety of stores and a movie theatre, the town looks pretty much self-contained. "What a place to live", a guy named Wally wrote home to Cleveland, on the back of the card, and he didn't mean that in a positive way. The town looks nice enough, though.

Busy, busy...

My scanner is working overtime these days...I have just bought another (roughly) 2000 old postcards and have been adding a selection of those to my auction site in the past few days. In the coming weeks I'll be adding many more. Besides many Canadian cards, there are items from all over the world.
Early postcards of Nova Scotia, Canada

I've just added about 50 postally used postcards of Nova Scotia, many with written messages, from around 1910 to the 1920's. Have a look here.

I've just listed some interesting postcards of Beirut, from the years between 1910 and 1920. They show a lively city with an international flavour.

The lost village of Hallsands

The fishing village of Hallsands in Devon, England, before it disappeared into the sea in 1917; a photo-postcard I sold some time ago.
